When I first dreamed of Shellee's Green Cleaning I stood in my kitchen with a bottle of "big brand" cleaner in my hand looking at the ingredients on the back that that seemed like a list for a science fair project. This wasn't something I wanted on my countertops, let alone breathe in as it sprayed into the air and lets not talk about touching it with my skin! This was the moment I knew we could do better!
With thousands of products on the market ours had to be distinctive and different but effective yet simple. Every ingredient we choose has a purpose: to clean while being safe for your family, pet, and the planet. We skip unnecessary fillers, dyes and harsh chemical clouds or lists of side effects to bring you products that are simple.
Our formulas are kind to your home, tough on messes, and always designed with the bigger picture in mind - a cleaner, safer environment for everyone.
Ingredients You Can Feel Good About
- CHLORINE DIOXIDE (CLO2): The powerhouse of our formulas. It tackles odors, germs, and stains without leaving harmful residues. Its strong on cleaning but breaks sown safely so you don't have to worry about lingering toxins.
- PLANT-BASED SURFACTANTS: These are the gentle "soap-like" helpers that lift away dirt and grease. Derived from renewable resources, the do the heavy lifting without the harshness of synthetic detergents that are harsh on your skin.
- MINERAL SALTS: Stabilizers and boosters that make sure your cleaning power stays effective and reliable. Simple, natural, and safe.
- WATER (H2O): The ultimate universal solvent. Sometimes the simplest ingredient is the most powerful.
- ESSENTIAL OILS (in select products): Light natural scents that lighten up your space without overpowering your space. Think clean not perfumy.
- NATURALLY OCCURING SCENTS: You may notice a light scent in some of our products, even when NO essential oils are added. This is because certain natural ingredients (Minerals, plant-based surfactants, or chlorine dioxide) carry their own subtle aroma. These aren't perfumes or synthetic fragrances, just the signature "fragrance" of clean, simple ingredients doing their job.
- Safe pH-balanced blends: for surfaces and skins
- Recyclable or compostable packaging: with a goal for all product packaging to be either fully recycle or omposable by 2027
What We Don't Put In Our Products!
Shellee's Green products are intentionally formulated without the chemicals that eco-conscious customers seek to avoid.
- Phosphates - Harm aquatic life and contribute to water pollution.
- FAC Chlorine (aka) Bleach - Strong but toxic, can irritate skin and lungs.
- Ammonia - Harsh, corrosive, and a respiratory irritant.
- Petroleum-based Solvents - Derived from non-renewable resources, often toxic.
- Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) - Contribute to indoor air pollution.
- Synthetic fragrances - Often contain phthalates and allergens.
- Synthetic dyes or colorants - Unnecessary additives that add risk, not function.
- Formaldehyde & formaldehyde-releasing preservatives - known carcinogens.
- SLS / SLES (sodium lauryl/ laureth sulfate) - Harsh foaming agents, skin irritants.
- Parabens - Preservatives linked to hormone disruption.
- Triclosan - Antibacterial chemical harmful to waterways and suspected endocrine disruptor.
FAQ'S About Our Ingredients
Why do you use chlorine dioxide? Isn't chlorine bad?
Great question! Chlorine dioxide is not the same as chlorine in pools or bleach that your mama or grandma use to put in the wash to make everything smell like a swimming pool. It's a totally different compound that's much safer and leaves no harmful residue. It cleans powerfully while gentle on people, pets, and the environment.
Are your ingredients biodegradable?
YES! We are committed to using ingredients that break down safely, without sticking around to harm waterways or ecosystems. When chlorine dioxide breaks down the finished compound is salt, so it naturally does back to the earth.
Do you us artificial dyes or fragrances?
NEVER! We believe "clean" shouldn't come in neon blue or smell like a perfume aisle. If you notice a scent, it's from carefully chosen natural ingredients, never synthetic chemicals. Only our mico-fiber cloths come with color, everything else is a natural bi-product of it's process. If your brain has been trained that your laundry must smell like a candle to be clean then you won't find those product here.
Are your products vegan and cruelty-free?
ABSOLUTELY! No animal byproducts, NO animal testing! Just clean, green formulas and our laundry soap has been know to clean a puppy or two after a meeting with the black and white cat, if you know what I mean!

We like to think of our ingredient list as a recipe for peace of mind; a short, simple lineup of safe, effective elements that make your home sparkle without compromise like grandma would have wanted. Because when you know what's in your products, you can feel good about where they're used, your counters, your laundry, and your life.
